Miroir du Trichoptère / The Caddisfly’s Mirror

/ Hubert Duprat has made a name for himself through the precious cocoon-like cases which he has inveigled caddisfly larvae to build—larvae well known to fly fishermen.

/ With his great interest in materials and know-how, he has since developed a sculptural body of work, closely attached to the liking of curiosities of the Mannerist period.

Des expositions récentes en ont rendu compte :
/ Recent exhibitions have illustrated this:

/ In tandem with his multi-facetted oeuvre, Hupert Duprat has developed a whole line of research on the caddisfly (Trichoptera), exchanging correspondence with specialists all over the world, and scouring libraries and secondhand bookshops. He has thus put together a considerable store of documents, ranging over more than four centuries, about the caddisfly, and the entomological and ethological studies that have been devoted to it, the experiments it has given rise to, its use by anglers, the imaginary and scientific illustrative material associated with it, and so on. There are, in all, more than a thousand publications, books and periodicals alike, a collection of engravings, binders full of copies and notes, photographs, videos, and the like.

(Ex. Miroir des Dames, Miroir du Salut, etc.)
The Caddisfly’s Mirror refers to the title of Renaissance works which, with their pre-encylcopaedic aim, wanted to encompass all the knowledge about a given subject. (E.g. The Ladies’ Mirror, The Health Mirror, etc.)

/ All Hubert Duprat’s “Caddisfly” archives (between 10 and 20 cubic feet!) will be made available to participants with a view to creating an event at “Live in Your Head”, the exhibition venue of the HEAD-Geneva.

♣ Le projet est ouvert. Que faire de telles archives d’artiste ? Comment les rendre publiques ? Quelle forme donner à leur monstration : diffusion, exposition, consultation, site internet, etc. ?
/ The project is an open one. What is to be done with this kind of artist’s archives? How are they to be made public? What form should be given to their display: distribution, exhibition, consultation, website, etc.?

/ The project will be supported by the students co-signing the event, exhibition, or other form.
