The artificial larval case of the Caddis-fly (Phryganea grandis, Latr.).
It is a cylindrical tube, formed of small grains of sand, cemented together by a secretion of the larva, analogous to silk, and strengthened by longitudinal pieces of stick. The tube is open at both ends for the entry of water ; and the larva, which lives under water, always transports its domicile along with it.
